Human Connections Group has partnered exclusively with Queenstown Airport Corporation (“QAC”) for the appointment of a Financial Controller.

QAC operates two of the world’s most scenic airports - Queenstown and Wanaka - which connect the stunning Southern Lakes region with New Zealand and the world. Queenstown Airport connects the Southern Lakes region to seven New Zealand and Australian destinations and with hundreds of people employed across the airport communities, the organisation contributes significantly to the economic prosperity of New Zealand and the Otago region.

 

The Job:

The role of Financial Controller reports directly to the General Manger Finance & Commercial and works closely with a range of internal stakeholders from the Chief Executive and the Board to both the Corporate and Operations leadership teams.

You will be a natural leader who can manage up to get the job done in this busy hands-on role, you will have excellent attention to detail and comfortable both leading and being “on the tools” where required.

You will be an exceptional planner who can take ownership of your own workload and support those within your team to meet deadlines for both daily transactional accounting as well as project accounting work.

You will be supported by a small, high-performing, and established team

You will have proven leadership and capability and demonstrated experience working alongside and developing relationships with a myriad of external stakeholders. In this case you will be working with QAC’s shareholders, Queenstown Lakes District Council and Auckland International Airport Limited, and a range of suppliers and of course the airport’s tenants.

You will pride yourself on delivering accurate and insightful financial information to the leadership team, the board and external stakeholders, guaranteeing full compliance with relevant laws and legislation and your “open door” policy will encourage collaboration with other departments and the sharing of information in order to best support decisions that are made across all departments of the airport.


Summary of Responsibilities:

  • People management, mentorship, and development
  • Oversight of financial and management reporting
  • Oversight of compliance and risk management
  • Supervision of and effective use of financial systems and future recommendations
  • Oversight of treasury policy and control of transactions (payments, collections, investments, borrowings)
  • Control of capital management for current and future projects including tracking of fixed assets and post project reviews

 

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Accountancy qualification (CA or CPA)
  • 10+ years’ experience within an accounting and finance environment
  • Demonstratable experience in leadership, mentoring and developing staff
  • Exceptional analytical capability and advanced in spreadsheet creation/management
  • Up to date knowledge of compliance risk management and commercial practices
  • Up to date knowledge of IFRS reporting requirements and responsibilities
  • Up to date knowledge in managing tax compliance and responsibilities
