About the role

Ready to lead one of Queenstown’s most dynamic bar operations? QT Queenstown is searching for a sharp, energetic, and commercially minded Bar Manager to take the reins of our bar and beverage department. As Bar Manager, you’ll run the show end‑to‑end—leading a team of around 15, steering financial performance, overseeing service standards, managing suppliers, and driving operational excellence every single day. This is a full time role with a minimum guaranteed hours of 40 per week.

What You’ll Be Doing

Operational Leadership

  • Manage the full daily operation of the bar and beverage service, ensuring smooth, efficient, high‑energy service.
  • Maintain and improve SOPs for service, cash handling, stock control, and floor operations.
  • Coordinate with Restaurant, Kitchen, Sales, Marketing, and Events teams to deliver seamless cross‑department operations.
  • Review daily performance and implement improvements where needed.

Financial & Business Management

  • Own the financial performance of the bar—COGS, wages, budgets, and operational expenses.
  • Monitor sales performance, identify gaps, and implement smart, commercially focused strategies to boost profitability.
  • Maintain beverage GP and labour percentages within target.
  • Manage supplier relationships and negotiate competitive pricing.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of approx. 15 bar and FOH staff.
  • Recruit, train, and onboard new team members to QT standards.
  • Build and manage rosters to meet operational and financial requirements.
  • Coach staff, monitor performance, and foster a fun, supportive, high‑performing team culture.

Guest Experience

  • Be a visible leader on the floor during peak service.
  • Ensure every drink, every interaction, and every moment reflects QT’s premium service style.
  • Resolve guest concerns professionally and maintain a strong focus on guest satisfaction.

Stock, Assets & Systems

  • Oversee beverage and equipment inventories.
  • Lead weekly/monthly stocktakes and investigate any variances.
  • Ensure bar equipment, storage areas, and service stations are clean, safe, and well maintained.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Uphold all liquor licensing, food safety, and WHS requirements.
  • Monitor hazards, implement controls, and maintain a safe workplace for all staff and guests.
  • Report and follow up on incidents and near misses.

Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with the Director of Food & Beverage, Venue Manager, and Head Chef.
  • Collaborate with Sales & Marketing to deliver promotions, events, and beverage activations.
  • Provide clear reporting and feedback to senior management.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum two years’ hospitality experience, including at least six months in a supervisory or duty manager role within bar or hotel operations.
  • Current LCQ and Manager’s Certificate.
  • A confident, inspiring leader who builds strong relationships and brings out the best in their team.
  • Strong understanding of bar operations, financial performance, wage control, and stock management.
  • Outstanding communication skills—calm, clear, and professional.
  • A guest‑obsessed operator who thrives in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance, WHS, food safety, and liquor licensing.
  • High personal presentation and a passion for premium service.
