Sales Assistant — Full-Time

Jamies Jewellers is New Zealand's oldest family-owned jewellery store, established in 1866, with stores in Alexandra and Queenstown. We're passionate about jewellery and proud of our work environment - one that's fun, supportive, and genuinely educational.
We're looking for a full-time Sales Assistant to join our Frankton store. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a long-established, much-loved local business and build real skills in retail, jewellery, and customer service.
You will assist our customers with their enquiries and also work in the back office on watch and jewellery repairs, liaising with our jewellers and suppliers. You'll build genuine customer relationships while working towards sales and productivity targets.
About the Role
You'll be the heart and soul of our jewellery store - where serious expertise meets the joy of sharing in life's special moments. We're after someone who can move seamlessly between being a knowledgeable jewellery expert and a warm, fun-loving customer charmer.
There's also genuine scope to get involved in our social media and website - if you've got a creative eye or enjoy content creation, we'd love to put that to use.
30–40 hours per week, including rostered weekends
Start date flexible/negotiable
Competitive hourly rate based on experience
Full training provided
Public holiday work is required
Main Tasks
Assist customers in a friendly and approachable manner
Inform customers of our products and services
Keep jewellery and displays in excellent, clean condition
Small repair work (training provided)
Other Duties
Visual merchandising (training provided)
Office admin
Store cleaning
About You
Previous retail or sales experience essential - jewellery experience a bonus, not a requirement
A customer-focused mindset with a genuine commitment to outstanding service
Proactive, confident, and able to use initiative
Extremely reliable; able to work unsupervised
Excellent communicator with all demographics
Well presented
Computer savvy
Eager and willing to learn
You'll also need to be good with your hands, enjoy working in a small team, and have:
A passion for exceptional customer service
A love of jewellery
Attention to detail, especially handling precious items
A great eye for detail and visual merchandising
Good eyesight
Excellent written and spoken English
Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and peak retail seasons
